CSL scientists develop and scale fermented ingredients, postbiotic lysates and other biotech actives at the Guires R&D Innovation Centre, from 5 L trials to 100 L pilot batches and freeze-dried powders.
Guires Cosmetic Science Lab
At Guires Cosmetic Science Lab, CSL scientists develop fermented cosmetic ingredients and postbiotic actives at the Guires R&D Innovation Centre, from strain selection and 5 L trials to 100 L pilot fermentation, purification and freeze-dried powders, with every batch checked for identity and activity.

Selection of the producing strain, growth medium and fermentation conditions for the active you want, with yield and quality tracked batch by batch.
Ferment filtrates, heat-treated lysates and postbiotic ingredients for skin, scalp and microbiome-friendly products.
Process transferred from 5 L to 40 L and 100 L fermentors, with the parameters that keep the active consistent at larger volume.
Cell separation, concentration and clean-up by centrifugation, homogenisation, tangential flow filtration and chromatography.
Lyophilised powders and concentrated liquids that store well and dose easily into finished products.
Master and working cell banks of your strain, stored at −80 °C and in liquid nitrogen.
Each batch checked for identity, purity and activity, from UPLC and gel analysis to cell-based efficacy assays.
Deliverables
How it runs
Results from the Guires R&D Innovation Centre support formulation decisions, ingredient selection and claims development. Where a market or retailer needs regulatory-grade data, such as GLP safety studies or accredited test reports, CSL arranges those studies as part of the project.
Questions
Yes. CSL scientists can bank and ferment a strain you supply, under a confidentiality agreement, and the process stays yours.
From laboratory flasks up to 100 L fermentor batches, enough for formulation, stability and consumer testing. Commercial volumes are transferred to a contract manufacturer.
Yes, in most markets, provided the ingredient has a safety assessment, a suitable INCI name and documentation. CSL regulatory specialists prepare this with you.
