CSL scientists measure actives, preservatives, peptides and particle size at the Guires R&D Innovation Centre, to confirm raw materials, track stability and prove a product contains what the label says.
Guires Cosmetic Science Lab
At Guires Cosmetic Science Lab, CSL scientists provide cosmetic analytical testing at the Guires R&D Innovation Centre: UPLC assays of actives and preservatives, stability monitoring, peptide identity by MALDI-TOF, particle size analysis including nano mineral UV filters, and enzyme activity testing.

UPLC measurement of actives such as niacinamide, vitamin C and caffeine, and of preservatives, in raw materials and finished products.
Actives measured over time in accelerated, freeze-thaw and cycling stability studies, alongside pH and appearance.
Identity and purity of peptides, proteins and enzymes by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and gel electrophoresis.
Particle size of pigments and mineral UV filters, including nano-scale zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, and droplet size in emulsions.
Activity of enzyme actives such as papain, so products are bought and dosed on real activity.
Raw materials checked against their specification before use, linked to CSL sourcing.
Deliverables
How it runs
Results from the Guires R&D Innovation Centre support formulation decisions, ingredient selection and claims development. Where a market or retailer needs regulatory-grade data, such as GLP safety studies or accredited test reports, CSL arranges those studies as part of the project.
Questions
Yes. CSL scientists develop and check UPLC methods for new actives, which can then be used for release and stability testing.
Yes. Heavy metals are measured by ICP-MS, and fragrance allergens by GC-MS, including headspace (HS-GC-MS) and SPME-GC-MS.
Particle size analysis shows whether a material falls in the nano range. The EU nanomaterial rules also need specific data, which CSL regulatory specialists help compile.
